Content Director

Position Summary:

Digital Services Georgia (DSGa), an office within the Georgia Technology Authority, is hiring for the position of Content Director. This position is responsible for creating, managing, and  curating content for the state of Georgia’s enterprise website georgia.gov, and collaborate with agency content managers. The DSGa team creates and manages content for the state flagship website georgia.gov and supports a custom Drupal based Content Management System (CMS) platform supporting nearly 85 state agency websites. In addition, the team is responsible for onboarding new agencies, partnering with agency customers to determine how the platform can best serve their content needs. Over the next year, we will be working on a project to replatform on Drupal 8 and migrate existing websites to digital platform with better defined content structures.

 

Responsibilities Include:

As the Content Strategist for DSGa, you will be working with the DSGa team and state agencies to ensure Georgia’s websites follow best content practices by hosting on the state’s enterprise digital platform. As part of the DSGa team dedicated to content-first delivery approach, you will need to understand the business needs, map them to the end-user needs and work with agencies to create a content strategy for individual websites. Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Maintains and implements the editorial calendar for georgia.gov

  • Will work with the DSGa content team to refine and advance our editorial vision and mission

  • Will help build our editorial calendar and written guidelines, as well as determine sources for content both internally and externally.

  • Manages the content team, including agency content management, editorial staff, and content strategists

  • Manages agency content creator relationships

  • Oversees social media presence for Georgia.gov

  • Works with the Chief Digital Officer to develop strategic editorial direction

  • Familiarize yourself with the Digital Services Georgia (DSGa) product components and its potential impact on state agencies and constituents as a whole

  • Practice a user first design process from planning to publishing.

  • Evaluate industry best practices and support DSGa products so that they benefit state agencies and help constituents.

 

Required Experience:

Candidate must be organized and analytical, adept at working in a team environment, and able to handle multiple priorities in a fast moving environment.

  • Experience in content management systems; preferably Drupal

  • Has a passion for writing, content strategy, and promoting content on social media.

  • Experience managing direct reports

  • Conduct effective customer/user interviews

  • Broad understanding of usability, usability testing, usability heuristics. Ability to communicate to the user experience team using a common language

  • Will need to be acquainted with web publishing best practices, accessibility, and social media.

  • Awareness of cognitive biases, and how they impact decision making.

  • Communication skills: listening, verbal, writing, and visual communication

  • Effective note-taking

  • Time-management

 

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison between Digital Services Georgia and state agency content managers.

  • Be an active participant in planning and conducting content migrations for websites migrated from legacy system to the new digital platform.

  • Collaborate with identified agencies to create a content strategy and playbook the agency content managers can follow.

  • Conduct training for agency content managers using DSGa’s Content training materials and framework.

  • Determine and manage sources for content creation, both internally and externally.

  • Serve as an exemplary writer, consistent with Georgia.Gov’s tone and mission.

  • Should write clean, concise, well-polished content that includes factual pieces, articles, blogs, and social media updates.

  • Edit and proofread content produced by teammates, including conceptualizing the projects upfront and copy-editing prior to publishing.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, content performance metrics, and customer challenges in order to build a more effective editorial calendar.

  • Manage content and social media presence for the DSGa website.

  • Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary vendor teams to evaluate ongoing content enhancements in the face of technical constraints.

  • Participate in customer requirements gathering and discovery meetings. Support the acquisition team in presenting content strategy to stakeholders and executive leadership and gain buy in on proposed approach.

  • Be deeply familiar with DSGa goals and product roadmap.

  • Participate in internal projects as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

  • 3+ years’ product development experience in a supervisory capacity

  • Knowledge of the market and industry

  • Excellent networking skills, especially with regard to distribution channels and social media

  • Strong motivational skills, especially when it comes to leading a team

  • Three years of experience in the area of assignment

  • Team lead or project lead experience
